Valentine’s Day came another year without romantic
entanglements for this authoress. I like standing by the fact that I have never
had a boyfriend during this particular holiday. I’m not bitter about that fact.
Rather I am thankful to not have a reason to throw hate parties like some of my
fellow single gals. So what did I do this year instead of wallowing in a
whirlpool of loveless self-pity? Besides being grateful for the familial loves
of my life, I published a love story.
Stay is a new paranormal romance novel I started writing
while trying to get over writers block last year. I was working hard on Silver
Hollow at the time. And as often happens when writing consuming epics, I ran
into a massive road block halfway through my second draft. Stay sprouted from
that time, partly because of the advice from a fellow author and good friend of
mine. She told me to keep writing, even if it’s fanfiction, or short stories.
And I’m so glad I listened to her advice!
I’m not in a relationship, as was stated above, and
honestly haven’t been in one, for a couple of years now. With good reason. Have
you seen the men out there lately? (Know I need say no more ;) Some might think
this disqualifies me from writing a love story, but I have been in love before.
To gain better perspective, I decided to interview over two dozen women in my
acquaintance on the subject of true love. These women range from all ages, teen
to older adults, authors and readers/bloggers and differing backgrounds. I
wanted to know for myself what true love looked like from a broader spectrum.
And I wasn’t disappointed with the response.
Some popular answers I found, for the reasons these women
fell in love with their men are as follows: deep conversations, listener,
understanding without words, his intensity… You get the idea :) Other important
factors included, knowing his heart and his selfless desire to make her happy.
He was there when she needed him. He treated her how she deserved, was willing
to give up the one thing he wanted most for her.
They worked through their issues together.
And somewhere along this six month journey, I too learned
how to put my own bitterness with love aside, with my main character, Rona. If
